Romain has been dreaming of this since the start of his career, and he’s just done it. So we’re delighted to share the news with you here. After 8 months of research, reading, writing, questioning, introspection, doubt, wonder, sharing and empathy, Romain has just completed his Master 2 Design Graphique Communication et Édition with honors, of which the present object is the culmination.
In his research paper(s), Romain questions his creative process through the notion of empathy. The topics covered include sensitive design, collaboration, conversation, pedagogy, inspiration, poeticization, visual rhetoric and transmission.
It’s been a long and wonderful adventure, so the list of thanks is very long, and only this place allows me to mention everyone.
For the production of the object:
Jean-François Guillet and the Fedrigoni paper brand for the cover, printed on Splendorlux Mirror, a perfect illustration of the reflexive mirror. Bookbinder Jean-Marc Mauger of Art et Reliure de Lautrec.
For my research and writing work:
First and foremost, Xavière Ollier, my tutor and research director, who put my practice into words and showed me a great deal of kindness. François Caspar, Béatrice Gisclard, Hugo Roussel, Christophe Lemaire, Franck Dubois and all my friends at Alliance France Design (yes, you really do inspire me, and all in your own way). Also, the entire team at the University of Toulouse Jean Jaurès, Bérangère Danis, Jean-François Gaudron and Dolorès Ba.
My friends, collaborators, partners and customers:
Laurent Piccolillo (how could I not mention you), Samuel Roger my studio partner, Jean-Olivier Rieusset-Bonfill and Sébastien Alary from Alaryk brasserie, Michèle and Alban Prades from Domaine Lévéjean, Olivier Nicolas, Estelle Marseille, Élisabeth Molina †, Olivier Barbel, Sara Liliane Fernandez (because our conversations reassured me) and then all those with whom I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating since 2005 (the list is far too long).
And finally my family:
A big thank you to my wife Émilie, without whom none of this would have been possible. My daughters (for their patience) and my parents (even if they don’t always understand what I do every day).
Photos and excerpts from the memoir will be published shortly to share the project even more widely. However, please do not ask for a copy of the memoir, as the content is too intimate/sensitive.
Romain.
