Sérignan 1900 - 1960
A history of winegrowers, artisans, and merchants

Founded in 1989, a highly symbolic year marked by the bicentenary of the French Revolution, the Histoire de Sérignan association’s mission is to research, promote and pass on the village’s historical, cultural and human heritage. This is part of our commitment to preserving our collective memory while making it accessible to as many people as possible.

Convinced that knowledge of the past sheds light on the present and provides a better understanding of the future, the association cultivates curiosity, sharing, and transmission through a wide range of initiatives. Thematic conferences, guided heritage tours, temporary exhibitions, and documented publications punctuate its activities, offering everyone the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich and vibrant history of Sérignan.

For more than three decades, the association has relied on the passion and unwavering commitment of its volunteer members. Several presidents have shaped its evolution and influence, each leaving their mark and vision. From Georges Fabre, the inspired founder, to Jean-Pierre Balza, who has been president since 2020, the adventure continues, fueled by the same enthusiasm and open to new projects focused on the future.

Today, Histoire de Sérignan is a key player in local cultural life, bridging the gap between generations and passing on memories, creating a dialogue between heritage and modernity.

Sérignan, shared memories

The Histoire de Sérignan association entrusted us with designing the layout for the book “Sérignan 1900-1960,” which traces the lives of the village’s artisans, merchants, and winegrowers. This book brings together memories of Sérignan in a unique printed object, intended to preserve this memory for future generations. It does not claim to offer absolute truth, but expresses a sincere desire to pass on and highlight part of the history of the small town of Sérignan.

Here, you can immerse yourself in the village’s memories through touching anecdotes, significant historical events, photographs taken from archives or family albums, official documents, the names of those (shopkeepers, craftsmen, winegrowers) who brought local life to life, not to mention carefully scanned postcards from the past, which tell the story of the place in their own way.

Postcards, fragments of life

This edition, inspired by a collection of postcards accumulated over the years, bears witness to the passing of time, recounting stories and anecdotes from local residents.

The postcard evokes a universal memory, reminding everyone of those nostalgic moments of writing and reading that are unique to this medium.

To reflect this spirit, we explored the iconic codes of the postcard graphically: the grids that structure and punctuate the layout, while highlighting the archival images, and the handwritten transcription of certain texts, adding a touch of authenticity/humanity to the paper.

Historical heritage often tends to overlook ordinary people, traditional trades, and the work of farming and local commerce that brought life to the streets, built the village, and made it beloved. This edition pays tribute to them by capturing, with the utmost authenticity, the soul of Sérignan.
